Unconventional profession: voice actor Katerina Braikovska
Ukrainian dubbing is funny, deep, ironic, and impossible without people who are passionate about their work.
We’re talking about film dubbing, acting, as well as the industry’s peculiarities and working on various projects on the For HR channel with Ukrainian voice actress Katerina Braikovska, the official voice of Margot Robbie in Ukraine.
According to Katerina, anyone with any education can become a voice actor at any time. However, she notes that beginners should not be pushy and try to take on too much.
“To get your first role, it’s enough to start practicing dubbing and go to 1-2-3 episodes at first and see what others are doing. Then, if the director sees that you are flexible and ready to listen, he or she will start using you when new voices are needed. Marvel often requests new voices that have not yet been heard anywhere else. There are even examples of people who became professionals after their first dubbing job, practically without any experience,” Katerina Braikovska shares.
As Katerina notes, this profession is unique, as a voice actor and a classical actor are essentially the same thing. Many actors who appear in movies and perform in theaters also work in voice acting, and vice versa.
“I love the filming process, it’s like training, because after recording, you feel like you’ve just left the gym. There are also roles where you come out compressed because you’ve played them and it’s very hard to switch gears. This profession helps to release all the emotional negativity and everything that has accumulated in you. You can vent your anger ecologically in front of a microphone, that is, you don’t harm anyone, everything goes into work and it has real emotions,” – Katerina shares.
