Trends in HR management
The War, which has engulfed the whole of Ukraine, has presented unprecedented challenges to its people and domestic businesses. The labor market has undergone significant changes. In addition to existing problems, there has been a rise in unemployment, population migration, reshuffling of professional talent, shifting demands for different specialists, and much more.
In such conditions, HR managers have to seek new approaches to ensure effective personnel management and ensure the stability of enterprises.
According to recent Deloitte research, the main HR trends and priorities have become:
- workload management;
- real-time employee care;
- review of headcount/organizational structure.
But that’s not all. International trends in HR management are currently just as relevant as local ones, as they help adapt more quickly and effectively to new conditions. So, let’s consider the main ones.
Flexibility
Hybrid and remote work modes, which have become commonplace during the pandemic, are taking on new dimensions. The unpredictability brought about by war renders standard work schedules impractical for many organizations. Ongoing shelling and strikes on critical infrastructure affect employees’ access to the internet, communication, and transportation.
Therefore, flexibility becomes a priority, allowing employees to work remotely, from home, or any other safe location while maintaining productivity and efficiency. In this context, HR managers need to develop and implement new strategies for managing working hours, provide necessary technical support for remote work, and foster communication and remote team management skills.
Security
According to Forbes, 90% of companies emphasize that the most crucial task arising after full-scale invasion and still remaining is ensuring the safety and well-being of their teams.
The ability to effectively manage crisis situations becomes critically important for HR specialists. This primarily involves assisting colleagues and their families in evacuating from dangerous regions, providing support in relocation matters, and helping find temporary safe housing.
Additionally, it is essential to respond quickly to changes, utilizing communication and leadership skills to maintain morale and employee motivation. Various lectures, workshops on stress management, and psychological support contribute to this goal.
Furthermore, daily contact with the team is an integral component. Chatbots serve as an effective means of communication, used for surveying personnel about their psychological state, urgent needs, or intentions. This enables HR departments to obtain prompt feedback and adapt support strategies.
Individual effectiveness
Given that company employees may be located in different regions or even countries and have diverse backgrounds, it becomes particularly important for each specialist to be prepared to make independent and responsible decisions to ensure uninterrupted work and achieve business goals.
Instead of traditional hierarchical structures, HR departments foster the formation of flexible and autonomous work groups where each team member has the opportunity to make decisions according to their responsibilities and competencies without unnecessary micromanagement.
Adaptation
This trend in HR management pertains to both onboarding new employees and the adaptation of those who return to Ukraine after being abroad or employees who have lived in conflict zones or served in the armed forces.
HR departments need to develop appropriate programs, provide mentorship support, and offer information and resources that facilitate easier and faster reintegration into professional activities.
Automation
Automation and work optimization technologies take on many routine tasks that can be performed faster and more efficiently. This includes processing and analyzing large volumes of data, generating reports, recruiting and selecting candidates, as well as conducting training and employee assessments. The implementation of automated systems and tools allows HR specialists to free up resources for more important strategic tasks.
The use of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics technologies enables stable and uninterrupted HR process management even in unpredictable war conditions.
Achieving business goals in times of war requires innovative approaches and continuous development of HR management. These trends will serve as the foundation for success and resilience of organizations in challenging conditions, helping them adapt, effectively manage their personnel, and ensure the highest quality of work.
