How to adapt a TOP manager in a company?

Hiring a top manager in a company may seem like they already have sufficient experience for successful team or company management. Therefore, HR often perceive the managerial experience of a new employee as adequate, paying insufficient attention to the adaptation process. However, each enterprise has its unique management system, so the adaptation of new employees in leadership positions is no less necessary than for other professionals.

On the “For HR” channel, they decided to talk to Anastasiia Zhuravel, an HR expert and author of HR training programs, about how adaptation affects the company’s success, common mistakes made by HR, and why this topic is so interesting.

“In consulting projects, we often observe a situation where a manager is not provided with information about what is expected of him in the context of leadership, which leadership approaches are encouraged, and where his managerial sphere of influence lies. If this is not clarified, there is no need to be surprised that he cannot gain authority and lead the department to planned indicators,” – notes the expert.

Anastasiia also shared insights on how HR can interact with top management during the adaptation process and how to adapt internal employees who have taken on leadership roles.

“It may seem that an internal employee knows everything about the company, so they do not need adaptation in a leadership position. This is the most common mistake because they are not aware of even half of what the previous manager had to deal with. Therefore, adaptation is necessary, albeit with certain differences,” – says Anastasiia.

What an ideal onboarding looks like and what is most important in the adaptation process for businesses can be seen in the new episode on the For HR channel.
